Dr. Lisa Choi, Psy.D.
My therapeutic approach is directive and uses clear communication to help you understand what we are doing in therapy and why. I will not only carry the agenda, keep you on track with your goals, but I will walk you through different paths of how to get what you want while talking through the cost-benefit analysis of each one. I break down complex issues into fundamental parts so you can understand why you are experiencing challenges and what to do about them next time. I take a more active role beyond just listening or validating.
A little bit about my background and training: I am a Veterans Affairs (VA) trained licensed clinical psychologist (PSY34975), where I specialized in working with Veterans with PTSD, anxiety, acute and chronic illness, and mood disorders during my APA-accredited doctoral internship. At Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center, I administered neuropsychological assessments for patients with various neurocognitive disorders and psychiatric diagnoses. I was trained in CBT, DBT, ACT, and CBASP at Harbor UCLA Medical Center where I specialized in treating adults with borderline personality disorder and complex trauma. I have published and presented research on therapeutic interventions and promising practices to address conflict within the global majority populations. I have public speaking experience across academic, startup, and public sectors.
